English is so cornfusion

Aside

I was creating a new page for a website of mine and realized I did not know how to spell the plural of ‘hero’. I could have asked Siri to help me with my English but she has been a bit grumpy about Samantha lately so I figure best to just leave her alone today and I asked Google instead.

I remember when Vice President Dan Quayle (a native English speaker I do believe) made the mistake of spelling potato with an ā€œeā€, it spawned all kinds of jokes. I did not want to be ‘that kid‘ so I had to get it right.

I quickly learned that, in English, if the word ends in a vowel (a,e,i,o,u) you add an e then the s… just like the word ‘hero’ the plural is ‘heroes’.

(What then is the plural of Dan Quayle? Dan Quaylees?)

Yet then there is ‘zero’ and ‘zeros’.

Ugh! I have been at this English thing for 45 years now and it still cornfusions me!

What things cornfuse you about English? Or any language for that matter? Let us discuss in the comments below.

PS- The website I was building the page for is Live the Bond Life (www.LiveTheBondLife.com) so if you want to go over there and click around a bit that would be really cool. šŸ™‚
