What if success was just down the road or right around the corner yet you had already given up?
I recently heard a story about Special Forces training in the UK. It is said they have potential SAS soldiers go through a grueling 40-mile trek with 50-lbs of equipment in their rucks on their back. They have to complete the march in under 20 hours. Few make it and those who do arrive at the finish with another surprise in store.
There is a truck waiting to take them back to base and as soon as all finishers arrive the truck speeds away. The instructors tell the recruits that they have to do another 10 miles before they finish. At this point over half of the guys who made it that far quit.
The remaining half pick up their back pack and start marching again.
When they get around the corner what do they see? The truck is there waiting for them.
It was all a test. A test of mental strength to see if the soldiers had what it takes to really dig deep and go for their dreams.
What failures must the guys who quit feel like when they realize all the more they needed to do was to walk around the corner to achieve everything they had worked so hard for?
I do not want to be that guy.
Success can be right around the corner but you will never know if you give up. If you give up you will never succeed. You just have to put in that little extra effort. Give that one extra degree. Sure, there may be times to cut your losses. The trick is knowing if that is the right thing to do. Quite often, with just a little more push, success will come and all that work will be worth it.
