I have been hearing about it for years, ever since I first read Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. “Join a mastermind group” they said. What is a mastermind? It sounds like something a James Bond villain would be a part of right? A mastermind group is a small group that you meet with for the purpose of reinforcing growth and success while offering support to one another and manifesting success in the following areas; finances, spirituality, relationships, and or health or whatever else ya’ll are into. I sort of reluctantly succumbed and joined up with the 2014 Millionaire Micro-Mogul Challenge. It is part of The Millionairess Project run by Play Buffet. I figure I want to be a Micro-Mogul so I joined her Mastermind Money Crew. It seems pretty cool and so far I have noticed there are people from all over the world involved who also want to be a micro-mogul. Germany, New England, London and many other locations are all represented. I have yet to find out if we have a secret micro-mogul handshake. Patience Micro-Mogul Grasshopper.
So what is a Micro-Mogul and what does one have to do to be one? Play explains it best yet I will try to paraphrase it for you. She said a mogul is a very powerful and influential person in a business/industry. She goes on to say a micro-mogul is someone who has “…one breakthrough brand, one compelling website, one relentlessly helpful blog, one key social media channel, one solo-run entrepreneurship, and one phenomenal product or service.” Yeah, that sounds good. And since I already have the Richard Branson hair thing going…
Play said on her website she aspires to build a lifestyle business empire, and rise from flat-broke, ne’er-do-well fashionista to filthy-rich, minimalist, globetrotting philanthropist in 5 years or less. Yeah that sounds good too.
So what is the game plan? The first thing we are going to do is start up the Millionaire Micro-Mogul Book Club the mission of which is to study a small set of must-read works. Influential books covering each of the 13 major elements of online entrepreneurship. Sounds fun right? If you wanna join up click over to the group Facebook page and sign up and be a micro-mogul too. Tell Play I sent ya’.
So what are we reading over the course of 2014?

Tired of the 9-to-5 grind and want a way to earn or to supplement your income? Easy.

The Money Book for Freelancers, Part-Timers, and the Self-Employed: The Only Personal Finance System for People with Not-So-Regular Jobs
This is a book for people like us, and we all know who we are.
We make our own hours, keep our own profits, chart our own way. We have things like gigs, contracts, clients, and assignments. All of us are working toward our dreams: doing our own work, on our own time, on our own terms. We have no real boss, no corporate nameplate, no cubicle of our very own. Unfortunately, we also have no 401(k)s and no one matching them, no benefits package, and no one collecting our taxes until April 15th.
It’s time to take stock of where you are and where you want to be. Ask yourself: Who is planning for your retirement? Who covers your expenses when clients flake out and checks are late? Who is setting money aside for your taxes? Who is responsible for your health insurance?
Take a good look in the mirror: You are.
The Money Book for Freelancers, Part-Timers, and the Self-Employed describes a completely new, comprehensive system for earning, spending, saving, and surviving as an independent worker. From interviews with financial experts to anecdotes from real-life freelancers, plus handy charts and graphs to help you visualize key concepts, you’ll learn about topics including:
• Managing Cash Flow When the Cash Isn’t Flowing Your Way
• Getting Real About What You’re Really Earning
• Tools for Getting Out of Debt and Into Financial Security
• Saving Consistently When You Earn Irregularly
• What To Do When a Client’s Check Doesn’t Come In

Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook: How to Tell Your Story in a Noisy Social World
New York Times bestselling author and social media expert Gary Vaynerchuk shares hard-won advice on how to connect with customers and beat the competition. A mash-up of the best elements of Crush It! and The Thank You Economy with a fresh spin, Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook is a blueprint to social media marketing strategies that really works.
When managers and marketers outline their social media strategies, they plan for the “right hook”—their next sale or campaign that’s going to knock out the competition. Even companies committed to jabbing—patiently engaging with customers to build the relationships crucial to successful social media campaigns—want to land the punch that will take down their opponent or their customer’s resistance in one blow. Right hooks convert traffic to sales and easily show results. Except when they don’t.
Thanks to massive change and proliferation in social media platforms, the winning combination of jabs and right hooks is different now. Vaynerchuk shows that while communication is still key, context matters more than ever. It’s not just about developing high-quality content, but developing high-quality content perfectly adapted to specific social media platforms and mobile devices—content tailor-made for Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, and Tumblr.
